February 14th holds a very special place in my heart. Not only is it Valentine day, which is celebrated by romantics worldwide but it also my wedding anniversary. Like most things in life these important dates have been exploited by commercialism. Restaurants and hotels hike up their prices to really capitalise on the occasion. With an endless amount of consumer goods available it is also a huge dilemma what to buy your loved one. Watchmaker Max Van Brauge feels he might have the answer with his exquisite St.Valentines watch that is limited to only 10 pieces.
As a veteran of more than 25 years in the world of horology Max Van Brauge has designed many timepieces for prominent brands. Due to the ever changing landscape of the industry (which is currently in decline) he set about establishing his own company called Van Brauge Watches. Essentially he produces a range of high class traditionally styled timepieces at affordable prices; relatively speaking. Most of his collection is aimed towards the male consumer with the exception of the St. Valentines Limited Edition watch.
Generally, I am not a massive fan of timepieces garnished with diamonds. However, Max Van Brauge has done a pretty decent and tasteful job with this watch. I love the vibrant red mother of pearl dial, which works in harmony with the highly polished 37mm x 11.50mm stainless steel case. Other features include a 1 Carat VS1 G diamond bezel, raised silver numerals, diamond shape hour/minute hands and date indication (located at 6 o’clock).
Powering the watch is a Swiss made self-winding movement by Selita. This caliber comprises 26-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. On this particular model the rotor is fabricated from 22-carat gold and is visible through the double curved sapphire crystal case back. As a perfect finishing touch the St.Valentines Limited Edition watch is equipped with a high quality red alligator strap.
