Over the years I have had the privilege to encounter many exceptional designers and craftsmen. This ignited my passion to shine a light on these talents on my website and in books. Recently I completed my 9th book, which is entitled ‘Luxury Design for Living Volume 2’. It’s the second edition of a book I wrote nearly 6-years ago. Within that time period, there have been many technological advances, including in the audio industry. That’s why I was compelled to include a phenomenal speaker from Bayz Audio called the Courante.
For those that are not familiar with Bayz Audio, they are an exclusive Hungarian brand that specialises in loudspeakers. The company is the brainchild of creative powerhouse Zoltán Bay. Over the last four decades, Zoltán has designed and manufactured high-end audio products like preamplifiers, amplifiers, media players, cables, and loudspeakers. However, it is fair to say that the Courante is his Pièce de résistance. This louder speaker has an appearance that is literally out of this world.
Over the last few months, I’ve had several conversations with Zoltán Bay and it’s clear he’s a true perfectionist. Creating the Courante speakers involved a decade of fastidious research and development. Aesthetically the Courante is unlike any other speaker I’ve ever seen before. The futuristic cylindrical membrane is fabricated from ultralight composite material. This omits the sound by pulsating in the direction of radiation. Other features include two custom-made lighting fast woofers designed by Frank Nielsen of SB Acoustics. Completing the picture is a carbon fibre enclosure developed by András Voloscsuk.
Zoltán Bay said he intended to develop a loudspeaker with the absolute lowest distortion and idealized pulse capabilities. Ultimately his primary objective was to create perfect frequency responses in all directions. The Courante speakers epitomise the type of exclusive products I wanted to include in ‘Luxury Design for Living Volume 2’. Ultimately they combine exceptional design with superlative functionality.
