Hublot MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System

This April (2024) marks a significant milestone in my career as a multi-published author. My 8th book entitled ‘The Art of Luxury Design’ will be released worldwide by Schiffer Books. Compiling material and research for this edition was immense fun. Overall it took over 6 months to complete it was definitely worth the investment. This was enabled by a very supportive editor, who helped me achieve something really special. There are 4 chapters featuring some of the most exquisite architecture, automobiles, clocks/watches and lifestyle products. If Hublot had unveiled their magnificent MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System a few years ago it would have definitely made the final cut.

Within the world of horology, Hublot is considered a premium brand. They are probably synonymous with their iconic ‘Big Bang’ watches but more recently have released more complications. In my opinion, the MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System is one of the brand’s most distinctive timepieces. Impressively this watch involved 5 years of fastidious research and development. The final results definitely justify the means because this piece has a wonderful futuristic aesthetic. However, unfortunately for most mortals, only 50 pieces will be manufactured and the price tag of 250,000CHF is out of this world.

What makes the MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System so remarkable is the highly complicated façade, devoid of a conventional dial and hands. Hours, minutes, and power reserve are Indicated by 4 rotating anodized black aluminium cylinders. Seconds are displayed on a revolving open-worked tourbillon. This gives the watch a very chic industrial muscular aesthetic that will undoubtedly appeal to serious collectors. I also feel Hublot have judged the proportions to perfection as well. With a micro-blasted titanium case measuring 54.1 mm x 41.5 mm, it’s the largest to make a seriously bold statement without being too overwhelming.

At the heart of the watch is a highly complicated in-house manufacture skeletonised self-winding movement. The Calibre HUB9013 comprises 592 individual components. This entire splendour is visibly showcased via an exhibition-style sapphire crystal on the case back. The MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System features, cylindrical hours, minutes, power reserve indication and seconds on revolving tourbillon. The watch also has a power reserve of 48 hours and is water resistant to a depth of 30 metres. Therefore it’s advisable to treat this as a novelty piece and avoid excessive moisture.

The MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System has a black Structured Rubber strap with a complimentary titanium deployant buckle clasp.
