In the grand scheme of things Hautlence is relatively new brand being formed in 2004. It was the birth child of Renaud de Retz, Guillaume Tetu, Jean Christophe Chopin and Alain de Forges. Between them they have shared their diverse experience to create some exceptionally exciting timepieces. In a world where brand identity is of upmost importance Hautlence timepieces are instantly recognizable. On that basis I was delighted to have the opportunity to wear & review the HLQ08.
Originally this model was launched in 2009 and due to it’s beautiful appearance is hugely popular in today’s market. It is clear that Hautlence are obsessed with attention to detail. Although they’re not the most prolific watchmakers within the industry they certainly offer some of the most innovative designs available. My first impression is how seductive the exquisite HLQ08 looks. It really is a stunning watch with an exceptional amount of charm. It also feels really luxurious to wear & sits very comfortably on my average sized wrist. This is down to the cleverly designed lugs that use special pivoting screws for extra wearing comfort. At 44mm x 10.65mm it’s not a particularly large watch & doesn’t have to be. Although in my opinion the bold design creates the illusion that it’s a much larger piece.
I absolutely love the styling & layout on this watch. The key for me is the simplicity of the display. Every component is functional rather than just cosmetic & that is ultimately integral to the success of the design. The HLQ08 has a really cool three dimensional part skeletonized architectural façade. The dial features two discs displaying jump hours, seconds & an amazing arc with retrograde minutes. This aspect is absolutely sublime especially the laser cut minute figures. Also there is a date window subtly located at the 7 o’clock position. Basically the finishing on this titanium case marvel is exemplary. I personally feel the delicate balance of the design would cater to everybody’s tastes.
Under the case of the HLQ08 lies an impressive bespoke mechanical hand wound movement comprising 32 Jewels & oscillating at a respectable 21,600 vibrations per hour. Other features include an Incabloc shock absorber & impressive 40-hour power reserve. As you would expect with a timepiece of this caliber all parts are hand decorated & finished in house.
The HLQ08 is a limited edition restricted to only a mere 88 pieces worldwide. The price for this incredible timepiece is: $53,800
