Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon DeepQUEST

The story of the Ball watch company dates back as far as the late 19th century. In 1883 Webster Clay Bell was the first jeweller to adopt time signals that accurately brought time to Cleveland. Ultimately he will be remembered for his role of Chief Time Inspector for the railroads. Through his drive, diligence & determination he improved time accuracy within the system. Despite being one of the United States’ most established watch brands the company is now based in La Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland. Today the brand is synonymous with manufacturing of sturdy precision timepieces. In my opinion the DeepQuest is a prime example of this.

At first glance it is easy to see why the DeepQuest is one the companies best selling models. The solid appearance of the watch exudes an air of authority & class. By todays standards the size of this timepiece would be considered mid range measuring a modest 43mm x 16mm. These dimensions will clearly appeal to a large demographic & won’t alienate any sector of the market. The piece itself felt very comfortable to wear & sat perfectly on my averagely proportioned wrists. This is primarily down to the classical design & choice of lightweight Titanium used in production. Realistically this watch could be worn on any occasion & would look great with a dinner suit.

The design of the DeepQuest is very understated & I feel in essence that this is the key to its success. The sleek black dial works in perfect balance with the contrasting steel hands. I personally love the delicate detailing of the company logo on the second hand. The attention to detail on this sophisticated timepiece is exemplary. Fundamentally every element of the design is well executed including the brushed Titanium bezel & bracelet. All these components are superlative but the coolest feature has to be the patented rectangular micro gas tubes on dial. Incredibly this improves the watch’s night visibility by up to 100 times compared to conventional luminescent paint.

It is notable to mention at this stage the DeepQuest also packs a mean punch on the substance front. This is clearly & without any doubt a professional divers watch displaying an enormous amount of functions. Amazingly this robust timepiece is water resistant to a staggering 3000m, antimagnetic to 4,800A/m & Shock resistant up to 7,500Gs. Other important features include an Automatic helium release valve & a unidirectional rotating bezel with patented setting system. Ball have equipped the watch with the reliable ETA 2892, chronometer certified COSC. This Self-Winding caliber comprises 21 Jewels oscillating at a frequency of 28,800vph.
