Thomas Prescher Haute horlogerie was founded in the picturesque Swiss location of Twann in 2002. The enigmatic owner served his right of passage via apprenticeship at IWC & his first job at Audemars Piguet. His penchant for antique timepieces drove his passion to produce a range of exquisite & highly complex watches. The Nemo Captain is my mind clearly represents this vision.
From recent conversations with Thomas it is clear this is a piece he’s immensely proud of. This amazing timepiece draws inspiration from Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The Nemo Captain is classically proportioned measuring a modest 44mm x 16.5mm. These dimensions will clearly appeal to the discerning collector. I would also imagine this elegant watch would comfortably fit under a dinner jacket for formal occasions.
The design of the Nemo Captain pays homage to the splendid Art Nouveau era. The steampunk styling of this superior watch is absolutely enthralling. Even though the design is understated every element is integral. The principal features of the design I love are the large portholes visible on both sides of the case. These allow the recipient a clear view of the highly complicated tourbillon. The nameplates influenced by old steam engines gives the overall design cohesion. Telling time on this objet d’art is almost secondary. A small window discretely positioned at 5 O’clock displays the jumping hour indication.
As you would expect with a watch of this significance the highest quality materials have been used in production. The Nemo Captain is a fusion of pink gold (4N) & Palladium (950) but can be made to the client’s specifications. Underneath the wonderful exterior lays the Caliber TP 3W6A.3. Thomas Prescher has developed a 47 Jewel Tourbillon movement comprising 393 handcrafted parts. This highly technical complication is entirely designed and constructed in-house.
