Over the last few months MB & F (Maximilian Büsser and friends) have geared its attention towards an eclectic range of projects. One of their recent inventions is the sublime MusicMachine, which resembles a futuristic spaceship. This sensational creation was developed in partnership with music box specialist Reuge. The collaboration combines avant-garde design with highest level of micro engineering. The result is an incredible device that not only looks astonishing but also plays six contemporary tunes. On a recent business trip I was fortunate enough to view this exquisite piece. I can definitely say I found the experience highly stimulating.
Fortunately for me MB & F have also designed some striking new watches including the magnificent new Legacy Machine N°2. Like its predecessor (the phenomenal Legacy Machine N°1) the timepiece pays homage to the extraordinary talents of Abraham-Louis Breguet, Ferdinand Berthoud and Antide Janvier. Essentially these 18th Century visionaries have paved the way for all modern day Swiss watchmakers.
Visually all three versions of the Legacy Machine N°2 have their own unique identity. The faces are white (18k red gold) black (18K white gold), and a truly awesome electric blue (platinum 950). I love the three dimensional aspect of the watch, which is my onion is horological architecture at its finest. The two flying balances and their escapements are a true revelation. These details give the watch a truly distinctive and bold appearance. Other stylish features include the white lacquered dial and astounding dome crystal, which encapsulates all this beauty.
MB & F have employed the same creative talents used to develop the Legacy Machine N°1. For the Legacy Machine N°2 Jean-François Mojon (Chronode) and Kari Voutilainen have devised a complex new engine. This manually wound 44 jewel mechanical movement comprises 241 components and oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5Hz). Each individual part is hand decorated, polished and engraved honouring 19th century style traditions. Functionally the watch features hours, minutes and a power reserve of 45 hours.
The Legacy Machine N°2 is presented with a hand-stitched alligator strap with 18k gold tang buckle (or platinum). Prices range from: CHF 138,000-CHF 168,000 (approximately $147,120-$179,100).
