Recently I employed a very successful photographer called Mark Spaven to take some professional images of my Polaris prototype watch. What really impressed me the most about Mark was his meticulous attention to detail. Every detail had to be absolutely perfect to achieve the optimum results. Therefore the allotted timescale we had originally agreed on completely went out of the window. Fortunately for me Mark is a true artist and didn’t charge me extra because the session ran over. Whilst I was at his studio I met one of his colleagues who is fanatical about watches. I informed him that as well as being a designer I also write about watches. This led to a lengthy conversation about many brands that most people (outside of the industry) will probably have never heard of. A great example is small independent watchmaker Revelation.
One of the first brands I ever featured on Total Watch Review was Revelation. This amazing company was established in 2007 in the picturesque region of Lully-sur-Morges (which is situated between Geneva and Le Brassus) Switzerland. Anouk Danthe and Olivier Leu are the creative force behind the business. Previously they worked as designers for many prestigious watchmakers. This experience eventually inspired them to create their own private label.
Prior to Baselworld 2015 I had only communicated with Anouk Danthe via email. This year the brand was based in the Palace with other exclusive watchmakers like Louis Moinet, Cabestan and DeBethune. Even though I hadn’t actually arranged an official appointment I thought it was worthwhile trying my luck. Fortunately Olivier Leu was very accommodating and allowed me access to some of their latest watches. In fact the model that really caught my eye was the watch Olivier was actually wearing called the RO7.
Visually the R07 has a really sporty façade that should appeal to a wide variety of buyers. Certainly I found the watch comfortable to wear and was happy with the proportions (45mm x 14mm). I also like the fact that Revelation has experimented with more contemporary materials like DLC treated titanium and carbon composites. This not only gives the timepiece a sporty appearance but also makes it ultra lightweight on the wrist. The watch also employs the same Magical Dial cutting edge technology as seen in previous models. Therefore users can alternate (by rotating the bezel) between black opaque and skeletonized dials.
Beneath the cool exterior lies a high quality Swiss made self-winding movement sourced from Dubois Dépraz. The caliber comprises 61-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This entire mechanical splendor is perfectly showcased through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. Functionally the R07 features hours, minutes, seconds and day/date indications. The timepiece also has a power reserve of 48-hours and is water resistant to a depth of 100 metres.
The R07 (as tested) has a Caramel colour natural veal strap with matching folding buckle. Priced for the discerning at around $10,000
