Azimuth Twin Turbo

Approximately eighteen months ago I visited Singapore (for the first time) with my family. Even though the trip was primarily about business, the experience was very pleasurable. Whilst I was there I met up with a very successful commodities trader who has a penchant for exquisite watches. As he was showing me his impressive collection his new assistant joined us briefly. Incredibly out of all the watches (pieces by Harry Winston, MB & F, Urwerk etc.) she noticed the model I was wearing. The timepiece was the marvellous SP-1 Landship from Azimuth.

Azimuth has always strived to deliver something out of the ordinary to the client. Previously some critics have suggested their watches are cheaper versions of MB & F models. Personally I feel these comments are completely without foundation because their creations are sophisticated. In fact they are the only company at this price range to be designing timepieces that are radically different. Even though I love many of the high end watches by Richard Mille, 4N, Rebellion, MB & F and Uwerk, the price tags are beyond most people’s budgets.

About a year ago I had a very interesting Skype meeting with Azimuth Co-founder Alvin Lye. He showed me some of the new designs that the brand was going to release in 2016. One of these was a striking timepiece called the Twin Turbo. Visually the curvaceous lines of automobiles from the 1960’s have inspired the appearance. I love the twin dials (powered by two independent Swiss ETA 2512-2 mechanical movements) that replicate the speedometers of a vintage dashboard and the bonnet like cover that conceals the crowns. Dimensionally the timepiece also asserts its presence and measures 54mm x 50mm. Clearly Azimuth has enjoyed creating this watch and that is why the overall composition is effective.

The Twin Turbo is available in four colours (yellow, red, anthracite and silver), which are limited to 88 pieces of each. Prices range from CHF 6,000 – CHF 6,300.
