These days I don’t feature as many watches on my website as I previously did. Ultimately that is because I wanted to feature a broader range of products. However, I still take a very keen interest in the world of horology. Unlike some writers I am not particularly interested in the politics of the industry or who is the latest ambassador. My primary objective is to feature timepieces that are original and in my opinion well designed. Certainly the Luna Exacte from Andreas Strehler meets both these criteria.
Last year Andreas Strehler informed me that he had produced a book with assistance of authors Michael Philip Horlbeck and Alexander Krausz. He also very generously sent me a complimentary copy because he realizes that I appreciate fine Swiss timepieces. Essentially the book celebrates Andreas Strehler’s 20th anniversary in the watchmaking industry. Interestingly the publication chronicles his early years and features several visuals including technical drawings and photographs.
Recently I received a press release from Andreas Strehler’s Lune Exacte, which has made the shortlist at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. This award is like the Academy Awards of watchmaking and even to be shortlisted is a great achievement. Certainly in my mind the timepiece is a worthy contender for this prestigious prize. As well as being a great looking watch it also is an incredibly complicated piece of engineering. Impressively the timepiece has a (patent pending) high precision moon age indication like no other.
Visually the Lune Exacte is everything you would expect from a fine watchmaker like Andreas Strehler. The open worked multi-layered dial is a revelation and perfectly exposes all the intricate mechanics of the watch. Other features include a moon phase indication, blue steel hour/minute hands and a rotating Vernier scale. This entire splendor is encapsulated in a choice of luxurious 18-karat gold or platinum.
The Lune Exacte has a hand-sewn alligator leather strap with matching 18-karat gold or platinum buckle (depending on which model you choose). Prices range from CHF112,000 – CHF125,000 (approximately $115,886 – $129,337).
