Due to the advent of technology a lot of friends in my circle either wear fitness devices or Apple iWatches. If they do own what I would describe as a conventional style watch, it is normally only as a fashion accessory. Therefore, they have not spent a lot of money on the purchase. Cleverly companies like Grand Frank have exploited this niche in the market. Ultimately they are a one stop shop for clothing, shoes, accessories and watches.
A few weeks ago Grand Frank’s marketing manager Olof Engh approached me to see if I would be interested in featuring the brand on Total Design Reviews. After carefully perusing their website I was very impressed with the overall business model. The company is the brainchild of Erik Bergström (Founder and Creative Director) and is located in Stockholm, Sweden. Essentially his primary objective is to sell well designed products at affordable prices. This include a range of stylish watches that won’t break the bank. One of my personal favorites is the Kinsale Silver Chronograph.
It is fair to say that you get what you pay for and the Kinsale Silver Chronograph is manufactured in China, rather than Switzerland. However, for $170 you really are getting a lot of bang for your buck and the overall build quality is pretty impressive. With a stainless steel case measuring 43mm x 12mm the watch is well proportioned without being overbearing. It also sat very comfortably on the wrist and could easily be worn for both casual and formal occasions. In fact, Grand Frank offer a superb range of outfits that would compliment this timepiece.
Aesthetically the Kinsale Silver Chronograph punches well above it weight. Details like the brushed gun metal dial with sporty chronograph counters add a real touch of class. Other details include raised steel indexes, delicate hour/minute hands and an elegant stainless steel mesh bracelet. Powering the watch is a Japanese made Miyota crystal quartz movement.
