Advisor SUPA Diver Bronze

A few years ago I visited Singapore to meet a few industry contacts including Alvin Lye. For those that are not familiar with Alvin, he is the Co-Founder and Executive Director Of Azimuth Watch Co. I believe this Avant-Garde brand really put Singapore on the map in terms of watchmaking. I also feel they have inspired many other designers to launch their own microbrands. In the last few months, I have featured several labels from this region including Achtung, Lytt Labs, Spectre Time and Zoid. Recently, I received a press release from another Singapore brand called Advisor. They have just launched an exciting timepiece on Kickstarter called the SUPA Diver Bronze.

Prior to writing this review, I wasn’t that familiar with Advisor Watch Co. The business is owned by Andy Swc, who is a regular on many of the popular social media forums. Clearly he’s got a passion for horology and that is reflected in many of his designs. All of the brand’s previous collections are powered by Japanese automatic movements. Miyota and Seiko calibres are very popular with entry-level microbrands because of price and availability. However, for the SUPA Diver Bronze, the company decided to opt for a Swiss-made alternative.

Visually the SUPA Diver Bronze has a rugged identity that will appeal to masculine buyers. Therefore, I can imagine Advisor, will have no problem hitting their funding target on Kickstarter. Dimensionally the watch is well proportioned and has a case measuring 44mm x 14.5mm (excluding the crown). For this model, Andy Swc has opted Marine-Grade Bronze CuSn8 rather than the steel used in previous collections. On Facebook, there is a forum called Brass and Bronze watches. On frequent basis members show images of how this amazing material develops a unique patina over time. Certainly, for a diver style watch, it is a great choice.

What makes the SUPA Diver Bronze so impressive is the robust façade that is designed to make a bold statement. If you like industrial modernistic timepieces then certainly this model fits the bill. Details like the ceramic unidirectional bezel, domed sapphire crystal lens, blue dial, oversized bronze crown give the watch a high-quality appearance. Impressively this timepiece is also powered by a 26-jewel automatic SW200 Swiss-made Selita Movement. Functionally the SUPA Diver Bronze features hours, minutes, seconds and date indication (located at 6 o’clock). This watch also is water-resistant to a depth of 300-metres and is suitable for professional diving.
