A few years ago I celebrated a milestone birthday and officially marked half a century on this earth. During the build up to this momentous occasion I discussed how I would like to acknowledge this event. Early on we eliminated any gathering and a surprise party was an absolute no go. Finally, we came to (in my opinion) an ideal solution which was to go on a family holiday to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
As my wife is South Indian she has an enormous talent and passion for cooking. That is why we decided to reserve a table at celebrity chef Peter Kuruvita’ acclaimed restaurant Noosa Beach house. Unfortunately, due to work commitments we didn’t get to meet Peter personally but the food was excellent. In very close proximity to Noosa is a fabulous resort called Coolum Bay. This popular place really is enticing and is crammed full of trendy café/restaurants. It also has some architectural gems like Coolum Bays Beach House by Aboda Design Group.
My sixth book entitled “Australia Modern’ (15 Houses in Harmony with the Land) recently won a Gold medal publishing award . Fortunately, I got to choose the final selection and felt (based on merit) Coolum Bays Beach House was a prerequisite. This amazing residential home was designed by partners Scott Falconer/Lee Foster (Aboda Design Group) and built by Fauna Homes.
Originally Aboda Design Group encountered restrictions like a steep and narrow site. However, they overcame these initial challenges to create a beautiful and harmonious home. They also followed the clients brief faithfully which was to create a modernistic residence that was conducive for independent adult life. This was achieved by devising an innovative cantilevered design that perfectly frames surrounding views of the ocean.
Internally Coolum Bays Beach House effortlessly combines a range of contemporary materials like concrete, glass, timber and stone. This stunning property has many spacious open plan zones that are presented to the highest possible standard. Outdoors the luxurious theme is continued with a spacious decked area, large lap pool and front lawn. Certainly it is no surprise that this phenomenal dwelling has appeared in numerous publications and even featured on the popular TV show ‘Grand Designs’ (Australia).
