TRI-06 Tribus ‘My Dog Sighs’

A few years I visited Sydney and met up with the Australian representative for the luxury brand Vacheron Constantin. Even though the gentleman was very personable he was keen to convey the corporate message. In fact, he told me verbatim exactly how my article should be read. As an employee of the Richemont Group, he had to adhere to certain requirements and strict policies. It also illustrated why it’s much cooler to own your own brand. For example, there is much more flexibility to create bolder designs and marketing can be a lot more organic. This is definitely the case with UK based micro brand Tribus.

For over 15-years Christopher Ward was the founding partner of a very successful brand under his own name (Christopher Ward London Limited). In 2019 he sold his interest in the company to pursue different ventures. Probably the most important one is Tribus, which he established with his three sons (Jonny, James, Jake) in September 2020. Recently I’ve had several conversations with Jonny Ward who explained the inspiration for the brand’s catchy name. The collective name for the three founding tribes of the Roman Empire was called Tribus. Essentially they are a family business, looking to stand out from the crowd. Based on the striking appearance of the TRI-06 ‘My Dog Sighs’ collection I believe they have definitely achieved this.

Recently Jacob & Co. unveiled a striking limited edition version of their Astronomia with street artist Alec Monopoly. No one can dispute this is an exceptional watch but it also comes with an incredible price tag of $600,000. Essentially the TRI-06 ‘My Dog Sighs’ collection is a similar concept at an attainable price ($2,850). Tribus has created a limited edition series of 50 beautiful watches with UK street artist Paul Stone who goes by the tag of ‘My Dog Sighs’. Each dial has been meticulously hand-painted, which effectively mean you are getting a unique 1/1 piece. Other features include stylish skeletonised hour/minute hands, embossed crown and dome sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

Beneath the 41mm (wears smaller) black PVD treated steel case lies a Swiss-made self-winding movement from Selita. The Calibre SW200 comprises 26-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This mechanism is visibly showcased through the engraved (My Dog Sighs artwork) sapphire crystal case back. Functionally the TRI-06 ‘My Dog Sighs’ features hours, minutes and hacking seconds. The watch also has a power reserve of 38-hours and is water-resistant to a depth of 50-metres.

As a final touch the TRI-06 ‘My Dog Sighs’ is equipped with a high-quality leather strap and comes with a funky presentation case.
