Bomberg BB-01 Automatic ‘Cure the BullDog’

A friend who resides in Queensland is an avid collector of watches. In fact, he’s proud to say that he owns around 80 different timepieces. Generally, he purchases watches under the $2,000 threshold and occasionally sells or trades with other like-minded people. Some of his favourites are from brands such as Dietrich, Mazzucato, SevenFriday and Zoid. These companies offer bold designs and relatively affordable prices. To achieve this, they use Japanese mechanical movements rather than their more expensive Swiss counterparts. However, if you favour Swiss Calibres and don’t want to compromise on the style the BB-01 Automatic ‘Cure the BullDog’ is definitely worth consideration.

Recently I completed my 10th book with is the second edition of my successful title ‘Luxury Design for Living’. The book comprises four chapters about architecture, automobiles, horology and lifestyle. For this volume, I wanted to combine innovative technology with bold design. For that reason, the BB-01 Automatic ‘Cure the BullDog’ was a natural choice. In my opinion, this is a fantastic-looking watch that is priced very competitively.

Interestingly Bomberg likes to describe itself as a lifestyle rather than a watch brand. The company are synonymous with exploring bold themes influenced by tattoo art and Mexican culture. However, the BB-01 Automatic ‘Cure the BullDog’ is their most provocative watch to date. For example, the dial is dominated by a skeletonised green Cannabis leaf (treated with Super-Luminova), which exposes elements of the mechanical movement. This model is also the first timepiece to contain real traces of the plant that have been harvested from a plantation in Nevada (adhering to the strictest environmental and sustainability standards).

Beneath the engraved (CBD Indica leaves on the side ring) stainless 43mm stainless steel case is a Swiss mechanical movement sourced from Selita. The Calibre SW200 comprises 26-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This mechanism is visibly showcased via the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. Functionally the BB-01 Automatic ‘Cure the BullDog’ features hours, minutes and seconds. The watch is also water-resistant to a depth of 50-metres and has a power reserve of 38 hours. As a perfect finale, the timepiece is presented on a genuine hemp strap with a complimentary stainless steel deployment buckle.
