Behrens is an exciting watch brand that is inspired by legendary German industrial designer Peter Behrens. However, the company was established in 2012 in Shenzhen, China and was initiated by a group of young people with similar watchmaking ideals. Most of their early models were a modern twist on the dress watch including a co-branded piece with my good friend Konstantin Chaykin. This really interested me because I too had the great privilege to work with Konstantin on a couple of bespoke timepieces.
Although I love all of Behrens creations there is one stand-out piece that is my personal favourite. That is the magnificent B025 – MARS Project ONE that has a mind-blowing aesthetic. This innovative timepiece was nominated for a prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) award, which is a really big deal. The company state that with various countries’ space department space projects reaching and exploring MARS, they decided to tribute to these human space projects by developing our own space project.
It can’t be a coincidence that Behrens has released a Mars-inspired watch and has collaborated with Konstantin Chaykin. For me, the Mars Conqueror Mk3 Fighter and Mk1 are two of the most exciting timepieces on the market. To be fair the magnificent B025 – MARS Project isn’t too far behind and is certainly a watch I’d be proud to have in my collection. I absolutely love the three-dimensional futuristic façade. As a bonus, it’s also an amalgamation of many of my favourite brands such as Azimuth, Cabestan, De Bethune, MB & F and Urwerk.
What makes the B025 – MARS Project so special is that time (hours & minutes) are displayed by 4 rollers system (for Earth & MARS Hours & Minutes). This feature is driven by the self-winding mechanical movement with an additional mechanical module. Dimensionally the watch exudes generous proportions and measures 42mm x 51 mm x 18.61 mm. Due to the Grade 5 titanium case, I would imagine it’s lightweight and very comfortable to wear. The Avant-Garde bold design might not appeal to everyone but I personally feel overall it’s a great achievement.
