When I first heard Watches and Wonders Geneva 2021 opens its doors on April 7th in a digital format I was a bit sceptical. Essentially, what makes these shows so special is the opportunity to meet the brands and actually physically touch the timepieces. This year due to COVID-19, compromises have to made because stringent restrictions are still in place. Judging by the activity on social media the event certainly was a sober affair compared to previous years. It was also dominated by LVMH, Patek Philippe, Rolex and numerous brands from the Richemont Group, as expected. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover Louis Moinet had decided to participate.
To commemorate their debut at Wonders Geneva 2021, Louis Moinet hasn’t just released one watch but a set of eight. This collective is called the ‘8 Marvels of the World’ and includes 8 one of a kind handcrafted timepieces with 47mm and 45.4mm 18-karat gold cases. All of them are powered by the same high precision Swiss tourbillon movement, which was awarded first prize at the International Chronometry Competition. The Calibre LM35 comprises 19-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Each watch has a power reserve of 72-hours and is water-resistant to a depth of 30-metres. For clients that desire the whole set, there is a special collector’s edition trunk fabricated from natural elm burr, with leather straps and interior. Below is a list (in alphabetical order) of all of these exquisite pieces with corresponding images.
