Recently I took my 12-year son on a vacation to the beautiful Gold Coast in Queensland. The prime objective of the trip was to do some serious father and son bonding. This region is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia. The main reason is the climate and theme parks (Movie World, Sea World, Wet & Wild). This was one of the prime motivators to book this getaway. Previously my son had never been on a roller coaster and was really excited to experience these incredible rides. Movie World hosts the DC Marvel which is highest roller coaster in the Southern Hemisphere. If you are really adventurous (like us) you can pay extra for backward facing seats. This type of adrenaline embodies the essence of watch brand Bomberg.
It would be fair to say that I am a huge admirer of what Bomberg have achieved. Personally, I feel they are the one of the most exciting watch brands on the market. However, they don’ like to be defined in those terms and market themselves as more of a lifestyle brand. Recently, I received a press release unveiling a new model called the BB-01 Automatic Spartan Red. As far as I’m aware it’s the first timepiece dedicated to these legendary Greek warriors. For that reason I was very keen to see this beautiful watch in the metal. Very kindly Bomberg shipped one over for review purposes and I’ve got to say it massively exceeded my expectations.
Bomberg are synonymous for exploring interesting themes, especially for their flagship BB-01 Automatic series. A few weeks ago I featured another one from this range called ‘Cure the Bulldog’, which contains real cannabis leaves. Even though the Spartan Red may not be a controversial but is equally impressive. The multi-layered dial with a Spartan inspired bronze helmet is a real showstopper. This is accentuated by bronze warrior spear heads that are synchronised with the minute indexes. Other impressive features include an exposed date wheel and Super-Luminova® photoluminescent coated indexes and hands. Overall the composition is highly refined and perfectly executed.
Beneath the 43mm stainless steel case is a self-winding movement sourced from Swiss manufacturer Selita. The Calibre SW200 comprises 26-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This premium mechanism is visibly showcased via the exhibition case back. Functionally the BB-01 Automatic Spartan Red features hours, minutes, seconds and date indication. The watch is also water resistant to a depth of 50-metres and has a power reserve of 38-hours. As a prefect final touch the timepiece is presented on a braided red and black leather strap with complimentary stainless steel buckle.
At a suggested retail price of $1,995 I feel the BB-01 Automatic Spartan Red is very competitively priced. For more information about this amazing watch follow this link
