Bomberg BB-01 Automatic Military Bulldog

For nearly a decade Swiss lifestyle brand Bomberg has delighted consumers with its stylish timepieces. However, what a lot of people might not be aware of is the brand’s affinity with the British Bulldog and in particular, one named Bolt. In fact, this formidable Mastiff featured is Bomberg’s ambassador and featured in their original launch adverts. Presently Bolt resides in Mexico and is cared for by the in-house team. There are also two bulldogs in Switzerland called Duke and Paulina. This passion for this distinctive canine breed was the catalyst for the ‘BB01 Automatic Cure the BullDog’. Continuing this theme Bomberg has just released another amazing timepiece called the BB-01 Automatic Military Bulldog.

I hugely applaud what Bomberg have achieved over the last decade. The world of horology can be very pretentious. That’s why it’s very refreshing to find a brand that prefers to describe itself as more of a lifestyle brand. Recently, I received a press release unveiling one of their latest creations called the BB-01 Automatic Military Bulldog. This iconic mastiff dog with a wrinkled face and a distinctive pushed-in nose features on the dial. For that reason, I knew this amazing timepiece would resonate with my design-loving readers. Generously Bomberg shipped one over for review purposes and I’ve got to say it massively exceeded my expectations.

In the last few months, I reviewed two of Bomberb’s flagship BB-01 Automatic models called ‘Cure the Bulldog’ and Spartan Red. Both are exceptional timepieces with an enormous amount of design merit. The Military Bulldog is equally as impressive and features a sublime multi-layered dial depicting a Bulldog. This is complemented by a green chapter ring with contrasting white numerals. Other striking features include a date window (located at 6 o’clock) and Super-Luminova® photoluminescent coated indexes and hands. This entire splendour is encapsulated in a 43mm x 14.2mm steel case with a studded collar-type aesthetic. Overall the composition is highly refined and perfectly executed.

Beneath the robust façade is a self-winding movement sourced from Swiss manufacturer Selita. The Calibre SW200 comprises 26-jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This premium mechanism is visibly showcased via the exhibition case back. Functionally the BB-01 Automatic Military Bulldog features hours, minutes, seconds and date indication. The watch is also water resistant to a depth of 50-metres and has a power reserve of 38 hours. As a perfect final touch, the timepiece is presented on a braided red and black leather strap with a complimentary stainless steel buckle.

At a suggested retail price of $1,995, I feel the BB-01 Automatic Military Bulldog is very competitively priced. For more information about this amazing watch follow this link
